Mission Statement
Here at Girls Take on Medicine, we know that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our founding in August 2020, we have been determined to make an impact. The core of our efforts is to encourage young females interested in medicine, advocate for female health-related issues, address issues women in medicine face, bring awareness to gender equality, and praise past, present, and future women in medicine. Through all of our endeavors, we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.

The Team Behind Girls Take on Med

Sophie Lai
President
Sophie Lai is a student from Brooklyn, New York who's passionate about health, medicine, and advocacy. She founded Girls Take on Medicine with the intention of supporting and empowering women of all backgrounds through education, awareness, and action. With aspirations in pursuing a career in medicine, Sophie hopes to inspire future generations of women in the field. She believes that it's crucial to have female representation in medicine as it defies the societal implication that women are incapable of succeeding in male-dominated professions. Sophie is not only working towards eradicating gender disparities in medicine, but also healthcare. The cost of being a female consumer is high and this results in a lack of access to female health-related necessities for underprivileged women. Through Girls Take on Medicine, Sophie strives to do what she can to make a genuine impact and contribute to a brighter future.
Charlize Wang
Vice President
Charlize Wang is a student from Brooklyn, New York. She wishes to pursue a career in STEM and so she helped establish Girls Take on Medicine. Gender disparities have been a common topic talked about in the media and society. Thus, Charlize plans to use her knowledge of this matter to educate others. In addition, female health-related issues is also a subject that impacts many women around the world. Not only does she want to bring awareness to those that aren't widely known, but contribute to the fight against these issues. As vice president of Girls Take on Medicine she hopes to use the platform to project light on ongoing issues and ultimately impact the future.
